STATEMENT IN HONOUR OF THE LATE SENATOR PAUL SHIN
“On behalf of the Senate of Canada, I extend the deepest of condolences to the family of the late Senator Paull Shin, who passed away on April 12, 2021. I was saddened to hear of his passing on a personal level as someone who benefited from his wise counsel and modelling as a trailblazer and iconic mentor. We have lost a highly respected politician and global leader.
“The late Senator was born in Korea in 1935. Abandoned by his father after his mother’s death at the age of four, he lived on the streets of Seoul begging for food until the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950. While serving as a house boy for a group of US officers, for reasons he could never understand, Dr. Ray Paull (the inspiration of the Senator’s first name) offered his heart to an orphaned Korean boy and opened the door to a whole new world when he adopted him in 1954.
