Ottawa, March 23rd, 2016 – The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights begins a study today focusing on human rights concerns and plight of the people within North Korea and that of defectors.
Committee member and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, the Honourable Yonah Martin, brought this issue to light with her committee members explaining: “North Korea continues to commit significant human rights infractions. When individuals defect from the regime, few countries legally have the ability to help. Through this study, I am looking forward to analyzing ways that Canada can play a role in assisting North Korean refugees.”
