Statement by the Prime Minister of Canada to mark Chuseok
Ottawa, Ontario – Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued this statement to mark Chuseok:
“Today marks the beginning of the ancient Korean harvest festival of Chuseok, a time of grateful celebration when ancestors are honoured and thanked for abundant harvests.
“Traditional feasts and the sharing of family stories make Chuseok a time of thanksgiving and joy. People travel great distances or gather with family and friends during this important time of Thanksgiving.
“As Canadians of Korean descent gather in homes, centres or halls across Canada in celebration of Chuseok, Chuseok also provides an opportunity for all Canadians to reflect on the contributions of Canada’s vibrant Korean community to the building of our great country.
“Laureen and I wish all those celebrating Chuseok health, happiness, and a prosperous future.
“Happy Chuseok!”
