TOFINO, BC – The Honourable Yonah Martin, Senator for British Columbia, paid tribute to the 32,000 Canadians who served in the Korean War and in peacekeeping duties after the signing of the Armistice.
“This year we celebrate the Year of the Korean War Veteran to mark the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice. On this day, we particularly remember the heroism of those who fought valiantly in the hills of Kapyong. We honour all of the men and women who fought for freedom and whose sacrifices have made Canada and Korea what they are today. I owe my life to them and I will never forget the sacrifices that they made for me, my family and Korea,” said Senator Martin.
In honour of the 62nd Anniversary of the Battle of Kapyong, Senator Martin and John Bishop, President of KVA Canada attended a commemorative ceremony in Tofino, BC followed by a visit to the Kapyong Memorial on Radar Hill. As part of the ceremony, Senator Martin laid a wreath in memory of those Canadians who lost their lives during the Korean War.
